#memadewardrobe new drop...#bonnetweed collection

My all time new year resolution is to enhance my pattern making technique. A creative field that always interested me, and have numerous possibility. This year I will challenge myself in more pattern oriented project by experimenting different garments, merging the skills into my heavily historical/romantic/vintage inspired design.
To start off, let’s start with tweed. In the past I didn’t design based on materials that I owned, but after the whole me made challenge thing, my design tends to more material based. As by sourcing material in a more sustainable way, designing with the unwanted/wasted/second hand.

These tweed I sourced few months ago from dead stock fabric sale, with a wide range of quality, from summer light tweed to chunky winter wool tweed blend.
Inspiration must be from the ultimate feminine Chanel tweed collection from the 90s. Mini Dress to corset skirt to midi split skirt. (Wanted to do a tweed jacket and skirt set, but mentally not ready yet.)

Drafting my pattern from basic block. Cutting dart to create shape a waist. A curve dart is new to me, but I got through this progress quite well. Exaggerated the A-line skirt shape, considering the fabric I used is in medium weight which tend to hold the shape itself. I didn’t add any interfacing to strengthen the fabric which you normally should (placed on neckline, armhole and bottom hem).

I chose to use a slightly crispy black cotton as lining, which gives a lot shape and structure to the garment that I didn’t expected. It actually holds the shape very well.

Quite satisfy with the first garment of the collection, some sewing skill defiantly need to be improved, which got me really excited in finishing the rest of my #bonnetweed collection. Let’s stay tuned with my pattern journey.
